Guitar lessons

26 January 2009

As part of my 101 things in 1001 days, I wanted to “officially” learn how to play the guitar.  I started taking lessons on January 13.

101 Things in 1001 Days

26 January 2009

101 Things in 1001 Days is the brainchild of Michael Green, a blogger and developer from NZ. He created a list of tasks to achieve within a defined period, and the idea quickly spread around the web as a tool for helping people accomplish their goals.

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days. The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part). Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

I restroactively decided to begin this challenge on January 1st 2009. This means that my finishing date will be Thursday, September 29, 2011

I’ll be tracking my progress as I go along

There’s a big brown cloud in the city and the country’s side is sin. The price of life is too high to give up and it’s gotta come down again. When the world wide war is over and done and the dream of peace comes true, we’ll all drinkin’ that free bubble ub and eating that rainbow stew. When they find out how to burn water and the gasoline car is gone, when an airplane flies without any fuel and the sunlight heats our homes. One of these days when the air clears up and the sun comes shining through, we’ll all be drinkin’ that free bubble ub and eatin’ that rainbow stew. Eatin’ rainbow stew in a silver spoon, underneath that sky of blue; we’ll all be drinkin’ that free bubble ub and eatin’ that rainbow stew. We don’t have to get high to get happy, just think about what’s in store. When people start doin’ what they ought to start doing then we won’t be booing no more. When a president goes through the White House door and does what he says he’ll do, we’ll all be drinkin’ that free bubble ub and eatin’ that rainbow stew.

Sweet and high at the break of dawn
Simple tune that you can hum along too
I remember there was a time
When I used to sing for you

Knew all the words to the popular songs
With the radio on full volume
I remember there was a time
When I used to sing for you

Forget the chorus, you’re the bridge
The words and music to everyday I’ve lived
There’s nothing, I wouldn’t give
For one more time, when I can sing for you

Soft and low when the evening comes
Holding you, sleeping in my arms
I remember there was a time
When I used to sing for you

“We need to get back to making stuff, based on real engineering not just financial engineering. We need to get back to a world where people are able to realize the American Dream — a house with a yard — because they have built something with their hands, not because they got a “liar loan” from an underregulated bank with no money down and nothing to pay for two years. The American Dream is an aspiration, not an entitlement.”

“Well if things don’t work out by the next song
And you’re looking for someone who can dance
I’ll be right over there by the juke box, a quarter in my hand
Trying to buy myself a chance”
